JAY FORBES must have forgotten to include himself when he announced earlier this year there would not be any jobs lost when Aliant Inc. helps to convert itself into an income trust later this summer.
A dramatic reduction in the number of telecom jobs was one of the consequences many expected as a result of the creation of the income trust but Forbes, 45, president and CEO of Aliant, the incumbent telephone company in the four Atlantic provinces, has made pains to stress that there were no plans to cut the workforce.
Earlier this week, however, Forbes unexpectedly announced he was resigning effective July 31, when the new income trust conversion is expected to have received regulatory approval.
