 Call centre wants 300 workers

Call centre giant TeleTech Holdings is looking to expand its Halifax operation.

The Colorado-based firm says it is looking for 300 more people to work as customer service agents at its contact centre located at Bayers Lake Business Park.

Sue Nelson, the company’s human resources manger, said Tuesday wages for entry-level positions start at $10 an hour, but performance bonuses can push salaries to $12.36 an hour.

Employees will provide over-the-phone help to customers calling for wireless communications services. Workers will handle in-bound calls only, not outbound telemarketing...

It is sad it think that this province continues to offer rebates to these fly by night call centers that pay little more than minumum wage. I guess it all helps the goverment pad the employment numbers and brag of another "high tech" business for the province.

Why is it almost daily news of a call center closing or opening, heck some days it seems like one closes and one opens within hours of each other.

Government funded sweatshops, little more in my opinion. We need innovative companies, not operations that play to the lowest bidder and look for handouts to operate.

call centre's are good and all but once the government money runs out the centre will go.just like the one in port hawkesbury the money ran out so they go.goverment sould start fining these companies when they go like that just because the funding is gone in 5 years
