EDS Canada is moving some of its call centre functions — and 160 jobs — from Port Hawkesbury to Sydney.
"We’re not laying off anybody today," said Pamela Bishop, EDS Canada’s communications director, in an interview from Port Hawkesbury, where company officials were meeting with call centre staff on Monday. "We’re offering relocations to Sydney."
Ms. Bishop said the relocation will affect 160 people at EDS’s Port Hawkesbury call centre, which currently has 400 employees.
"Relocation packages will be offered to employees who match our needs in Sydney," she said, calling Monday’s meeting an information session. "Whether people decide to go is a personal decision."
Ms. Bishop said EDS plans to increase the size of its staff in Sydney from 600 to 800 people over the next couple of months as part of a global business restructuring...
