InNOVAcorp's three business incubation facilities in Halifax-Dartmouth are
now linked through a high-capacity fibre-optic telecommunications network
spanning the Halifax Harbour. InNOVAcorp clients, made up of early stage
companies, will soon benefit from advanced data and voice services typically
only accessible by larger companies.
The fibre-optic infrastructure is part of Internetworking Atlantic
Incorporated's metro fibre-optic network that extends throughout the
downtown core areas of both Halifax and Dartmouth, extending into the
Woodside area and as far as the Bedford Institute of Oceanography. The
facility will satisfy InNOVAcorp's need to link the Technology Innovation
Centre and 101 Research Drive in Dartmouth with the BioScience Enterprise
Centre and the InNOVAcorp corporate office, both in downtown Halifax.
In addition to fulfilling InNOVAcorp's immediate need for multiple-site
connectivity, the new fibre-optic infrastructure is designed to provide a
reliable platform for the organization's state of the art integrated data
and voice network on which Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) will be
deployed. InNOVAcorp will serve its clients' increasing requirements for
high bandwidth connectivity. By consolidating internet, voice, and
inter-site telecommunications requirements on one high-performance
fibre-optic network, InNOVAcorp expects to deliver advanced services at the
same costs.
"InNOVAcorp is committed to ensuring that its clients have access to state
of the art IT infrastructure, so they can leverage technology to speed time
to market and have maximum efficiency when interacting with local, regional
and global customers," says InNOVAcorp president and CEO Dan MacDonald.
"After thorough analysis, we chose Internetworking Atlantic Inc. (IAI) as
our strategic network infrastructure vendor."
IAI president Bruce MacDougall added, "Fixed cost, high performance
fibre-optic networks offer an innovative solution to growing companies. We're
very pleased to support InNOVAcorp and InNOVAcorp clients in their quest for
bandwidth and connectivity."
IAI specializes in provision of direct fibre-optic telecommunications
services, and owns a 60 km optical network in the Metro Halifax-Dartmouth
area. IAI operates over 220 kilometres of fibre-optic infrastructure in New
Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and PEI, serving numerous enterprise, institutional
and government customers.
