 Liverpool signs deal with new call centre

LIVERPOOL — The Region of Queens was hoping it would be third time lucky as it signed off on a contract Thursday morning for a new call centre to come to Liverpool.

The municipality signed the lease agreement with On-Line Support Inc. of Charlottetown. It will begin operating out of the building left empty when Lightbridge Inc. lost a major contract and closed its Liverpool operations in August.

"We are elated, I must say that," said Deputy Mayor Doug Adams, though he conceded he had never heard of the company when councillors first learned the name of their new tenant on Tuesday.

People living in the area had known for some time that a company was interested in taking over the former Lightbridge building, but that company kept its identity secret, even at a job fair held in the building last month.

"The rumour mill was running," Mr. Adams said.

On-Line Support officials could not be reached for comment Thursday, but the municipality did say it has signed off on a five-year lease agreement at the rate of $12 per square foot for the 32,144-square-foot building...
