Chad Henderson lugs about 80 textbooks to class every day. But since they’re stored in his laptop, the first-year Dalhousie University dentistry student isn’t too weighed down.
"The fact that I don’t have to carry a wheelbarrow with all my textbooks around, (and that) just one thin little laptop has all my textbooks, is great," Mr. Henderson said.
Students who entered the Dalhousie dentistry program this fall had to buy laptops equipped with VitalSource software. VitalSource acts like a computer library and stores electronic textbooks.
Faculty members started training with the software in the fall of 2005, making Dalhousie the first school in Canada to have the program. The University of Alberta and the University of Manitoba started using VitalSource this year...
