A call centre in Port Hawkesbury, N.S., is shutting down, throwing hundreds of people out of work.
EDS Canada announced Wednesday its centre will close down at the end of the year as it moves to consolidate its global operations.
About 500 people work at the Port Hawkesbury call centre. The company said last month that almost 200 positions would be transferred to Sydney.

| Perhaps they just need to move to the Valley and get hired at Convergys. Call centers are not viable businesses. Short term gain that stunts the skills growth of the workforce, leaving them ill-equipped to take on another job when the call center goes down in flames. |

EDS will have no contracts left in their port hawkesbury area as of April 17th/2007..............such a shame ...this will have a major effect on local businesses in the area. Hopefully someone will see the potential this building posesses as a call centre location and take it over. BRING ON CONVERGEYS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
