A computer software program for the province is millions of dollars over budget and years behind schedule, an all-party committee was told Wednesday.
Opposition MLAs on the public accounts committee asked how the budget for the SAP financial management system grew from $5.7 million to $24.6 million.
"You have to wonder about a project whose final cost is more than four times its original estimate," said New Democrat Graham Steele.
The SAP project was launched three years ago to standardize payroll, financial and human resources across the civil service and the school boards.
Paul Taylor, CEO of the Office of Economic Development, said officials underestimated the job and thought it could be all done at once.
