An abundance of talent at bargain-basement prices bodes well for the information technology sector in Atlantic Canada, says a senior executive at an international software development firm.
"The cost of development in Halifax and Atlantic Canada is far cheaper than the U.S.," Shawn Holmesdale, director of software development for Quest Software Canada Inc., said Thursday in Halifax.
"We can hire pretty much one-and-a-half to two developers here in Halifax versus one in Silicon Valley. So it’s definitely attractive for companies to come here."
Mr. Holmesdale made the comments at a business lunch organized by the Nova Scotia chapter of Canada’s Association of Information Technology Professionals, where he took part in a panel discussion on the state of the regional information technology sector.
