 Electronic balloting system receives vote of confidence

A Dartmouth company has received a strong vote of confidence from the town of Cobourg, Ont., for its electronic voting system.

Cobourg was one of eight Ontario municipalities that used Intelivote Systems Inc. technology in recent elections.

"It worked very, very well for us," Susan Dawe, the town’s deputy clerk, said Friday, adding the company showed in-depth knowledge of the election process and attentiveness to the municipality’s needs.

It was the first time Cobourg had used an electronic voting system, and Ms. Dawe credited the system with helping to increase voter turnout to 45 per cent from 37 per cent...

Are these guys better than the diebold ones in the states? Down there they seem to have no end of difficulty with the things. I can see it being a good thing, but c'mon, where's the security? need a paper trail backup or it's just too risky. Next some nut will propose voting over the internet and we'll have hacker people messing with elections just for fun.
