 Tories mum on cost of Internet vow

All parts of Nova Scotia will have access to high-speed Internet access by 2010, Premier Rodney MacDonald said Wednesday.

"There are more than 140,000 Nova Scotians who can only imagine a world where a fast, efficient Internet connection is taken for granted," Mr. MacDonald said during his state of the province address in Halifax. "No matter how resourceful a business person you are, it is difficult to compete in the web-based retail world when your Internet service consists of a screechy dial-up connection."

He said the students at the 66 schools in the province that don’t have high-speed are at a disadvantage to those who do.

But when asked by reporters how much the commitment will cost, Mr. MacDonald wouldn’t say. He said there could be a competition for the project and it wouldn’t be fair to reveal the anticipated costs...

i'm all for more service in rural areas, but it shouldn't be at the cost of the taxpayer. bad enough they make ya pay both provincial taxes for roads outside HRM and city taxes for the ones in HRM.

do you not DRIVE outside the city? next you'll complain about funding healthcare in sydney mines

rural people deserve good internet too. economies shouldn't be centralized or driven by large cities alone.
