| Statistics Canada is trying a few new techniques when it comes to gathering information during this year's census, including filing responses through the internet.
People across Canada will start receiving census forms this week. In another change, the forms will be delivered by mail in some parts of the country.
"In the past we've always delivered questionnaires by having an enumerator go door to door and leaving a package with the household," says Doug McLellan, assistant director for the census in Atlantic Canada.
"We're moving ahead to take advantage of technology by using mailout and offering the internet option."
McLellan says Statistics Canada is expecting people will be open to filing their census questionnaires on-line. During a test in 2004 he says there was a high rate of response and he expects those who attempt it will find it fast and easy.
