TORONTO — A security breach at the U.S. company that owns the Winners fashion and HomeSense home accessories chains in Canada had their customers wondering Thursday whether their financial information was in the hands of crooks.
A toll-free hotline for customers was swamped with calls following heavy media coverage of the breach, which was detected by the retailers’ U.S. parent, TJX Cos. of Framingham, Mass., in December but only revealed to the public on Wednesday.
