People who slog it out as stock photographers often complain they get little respect or remuneration.
Enter Halifax student Duncan Enman, who just two years was a financially frustrated photographer by day and web page designer by night when he became disillusioned with the economics.
"I was discouraged with the low commissions paid photographers," the student at Saint Mary’s University said of the situation that spawned a business project called canstockphoto.com.
"At the same time, I recognized the value of stock photography for building attractive websites."
Today, the canstockphoto.com site is garnering industry raves and generating significant profits for its founder and for photographers in more than 120 countries around the world.
Mr. Enman, 23, said he considered abandoning the photography and web design fields altogether as he continued his university studies.
Instead, he retreated for a period to his room and Internet connection at home and emerged with a solution that merged his talents and eventually helped resolve the remuneration and respect issue for hundreds of photographers
His canstockphoto.com business is now one of the largest stock agencies in Canada, with users all over the world....
