May 23, 2007: Irvine, California and Halifax, Nova Scotia - SMC® Networks and SolutionInc Limited announced today that they have signed an OEM agreement allowing SMC Networks to embed a portion of SolutionInc’s proprietary tunneling software technology into its SMC8014WG-BIZ EZ Connect™ 2.4GHz 54Mbps Wireless Cable Modem Gateway.

The agreement enables SMC Networks to supply the cable market with a modem that significantly reduces the challenges in deploying pay-per-use public access hotspots in commercial locations, especially in locations outside of the provider’s service area.  The integration of SolutionInc software on the modem provides cable operators with full Layer 2 tunneling from the cable modem back to the network operations center, regardless of the network environment and infrastructure.  This eliminates the time and cost associated with network infrastructure changes that would be required to offer localized billing, splash pages and business models across a region and manage it from a central location; thereby reducing the cost of customer acquisition.

The SMC8014WG-BIZ EZ Connect™ also introduces new revenue streams and a competitive advantage for cable operators as they can now offer and centrally manage Internet services in commercial locations that reach beyond their service area.
