A new medical technology company founded in Antigonish hopes to be running a telemedicine pilot project with some of the province’s health authorities by the end of the year.
John Richmond, business development officer with New Systems Logics Inc., said Thursday the applied health informatics company has the experience and the technology to create a system linking patients with distant caregivers.
The technology would allow patients to do simple health evaluations and communicate the information over the telephone to health-care workers, allowing them to better follow the progress of patients in their self-management. The system would involve a refurbished low-cost computer, but would not require the patient to be computer literate or have access to the Internet.
"It can lead to easier monitoring of patients and the reduction of hospitalization. It’s going to be a cost saving for sure."
In addition to offering the telemedicine pilot, the company is offering a clinical research management system and an Internet-mediated medical research system to help researchers or members to recruit patients or subjects for their studies.
