The Fundy Shore is being ill-served by the province’s plan to bring high-speed Internet service to remote rural communities, says the Fundy Communities Development Association.
"The current federal and provincial reluctance to invest in sustainable technology for the taxpaying citizens of our rural communities must end," association chairwoman Barbara Hogan said in a letter sent to various media outlets Thursday.
The letter was prompted by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency’s decision last month to deny funding for the association’s own broadband project. The federal agency said it wants to wait to see what happens with the province’s plan.
The provincial government announced in June that it was issuing a request for proposals for high-speed Internet service to be delivered to remote areas by 2009, based on a successful pilot project that divided the province into seven zones. The request for proposals closes on July 31...
