Victoria County Recreation and Tourism has been awarded the 2007 Tourism Atlantic Technology Award for its efforts in ensuring tourism operators in the county have the resources and tools necessary to compete in an on-line global environment.
In 2004, the Tourism Atlantic branch of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), along with along with four provincial Tourism Industry Associations, created the technology award to recognize a tourism operator in each Atlantic province for innovative and creative usage of technology to improve and complement their tourism practices.
“The Government of Canada, through ACOA, will continue to support the Atlantic tourism industry, which makes a significant contribution to our economy,” said the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence and Minister of ACOA. “Through ACOA, our government is supporting industry associations to recognize tourism operators working to achieve best practices.”
The award presentation took place last evening at the Crystal Tourism Award of Excellence Gala Dinner – the closing event of the Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia’s annual conference.
The award criteria requires that the operation nominated be members of their respective provincial tourism industry associations, be in operation for two years, and be willing to participate in promoting their achievements to other operators in Atlantic Canada.
The Government of Canada, through ACOA, continues to support the growth of a strong and sustainable tourism sector in Atlantic Canada with a pan-Atlantic approach supported by sound research, marketing and product development.
