Nova Scotia Votes - Political Parties talk IT in NS...

Prior to the June 13th date of Nova Scotia's General Election,  ITNovaScotia.com sent a brief questionnaire composed of five IT related questions to each of the four main political parties participating in the 2006 Nova Scotia general election. While the election is now over, you may still click here to view the responses we received from the Progressive Conservatives, New Democrats and the Green Party, as posted prior to the election date.

It will be interesting to see just how these positions play out for both the PCs and NDP in the months or years leading up to Nova Scotia's next election.

I guess the Liberals didn't see a need to bother replying. Nice to see you did get some replies from the others on the topic, even if some of the responses leave a lot ot be desired. I suspect things will proceed as they have, not no real directed programs for IT other thanthe typical search for big firms from away to come here with tax incentives.

most of those replies pretty typical, actually.
i think the liberals had more problems this time out that replying to some random interview. Rodney got his wrist slapped for calling the election, but his on-again, off-again ally Dexter will go back to backing him up now. better no change than a big change. they not just luring businesses, they were talking about the importance of nsbi focusing on the ns part of it's name, so i wonder if they will change the mandate to to grow business, and not just attract business. rumour has it they're gonna try to start a placement site or something, help fill the empty seats these companies bring with them. good time to look for a job, not a good time to try and get someone for the one your trying to fill.

I believe the new NSBI/ITANS initiative is more focused on getting people to return from away than it is to help local IT professionals seeking jobs. From what I understand they are building a new web portal (ISL doing the development) to allow companies to post job listings for free and also for employees to post resumes, although no one seems to know all the details at this point or when it will be launched. They also have plans for information sessions throughout Canada and the US to bring people back. We will have to wait and see how it goes I guess.

What would be really nice to see with the new government is a mandate to NSBI to put the NS back in NSBI as the previous poster mentioned. It is time that the government started helping home grown businesses as opposed to always seeking a solution from away IMHO.

most of those comments are pretty generic. nothing that will change how the pcs or ndp act in their coalition. in the debate they said something about putting nsbi at even more arms length, but not sure what exactly they meant, if anything.
