Aliant launches Mobile Suite - a new wireless email and messaging service

Service offers small and medium-sized business customers choice, functionality

Atlantic Canada - Aliant, Atlantic Canada's leading information and communications technology provider, today announced a new wireless email and messaging service called Mobile Suite. Mobile Suite offers small and medium-sized business customers, and others, wireless email and messaging on devices using Palm and Pocket PC operating systems - providing customers additional choice, functionality and value.

Aliant now offers customers a choice of fully-functional wireless solutions for devices that use RIM, Palm and Windows Mobile operating systems.

"Aliant is pleased to offer business customers Mobile Suite - a great way to stay connected while on the go," says Paul Pothier, Director, Wireless Business Marketing, Aliant. "Customers can now check email or other office data and still have all the functionality of a full-featured wireless device."

Aliant is providing business customers and others in the region with more choices to stay connected than ever before. Aliant's newest email solution is based on the Intellisync product line from Nokia, an industry leader in wireless messaging. Mobile Suite makes email access easier than ever before - using push technology, email is sent directly to the device enabling customers to easily manage mail, meeting requests, calendar entries, contacts, tasks and other data. Attachments to email may also be downloaded and viewed, providing the customer more complete access to important information.

Mobile Suite is hosted by Nokia and is made available to customers via client software which they download from the Internet.  By providing a hosted solution, Aliant is able to provide its customers a valuable, low cost solution.

Mobile Suite is used on the Palm Treo 600 and Treo 650 and on the UTStarcom PPC6700 with a Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system. The PPC6700 will be offered by Aliant this summer.

The Palm and UTStarcom devices are fully functional wireless devices, with camera, colour screen, calendar, and email capabilities. Both offer web-browsing and QWERTY-style keyboards for intuitive text input.

Mobile Suite pricing options:
  • Customers require a cellular data plan in conjunction with the Mobile Suite messaging services. Mobile Suite is included at no additional charge for customers who choose Aliant's $60 unlimited data bundle.
  • Customers who do not require the unlimited data bundle may purchase a smaller bundle in addition to paying as little as $8.99 per month for the Mobile Suite service.
"Aliant recognizes that business mobility is paramount to businesses large and small, in urban and rural areas alike," said Tom Libretto, director, Enterprise Solutions, Nokia. "Choosing the Nokia solution allows Aliant to compete in the rapidly expanding business mobility market. By continuing to expand our platform to offer mobile users more applications, choice and flexibility, Nokia is empowering operators to drive mobility deeper into the enterprise."
