DARTMOUTH - Steve Morrison started writing software at the age of eight. By the time he got to university, Morrison had taught himself what he needed to know for software development. At school, he and three others wanted to get in on what they perceived to be a new trend of digital signage.
Eventually, they would create Dime. Four years later, Morrison and the company are doing well. The company has signed deals with Aliant and Killam Properties to supply them with their product.
Digital signage is an electronic projection - usually on a TV (although it can be on other surfaces) - that lets companies spread a message to their clients. Aliant runs its latest ads in its stores, while Killam uses it to keep its tenants abreast of building news.
Morrison, Dime's director of business development, said the company has built the software that enables it all to happen from the ground up. It can also oversee the complete installation of a new digital sign. So far, the company has done business in all Atlantic provinces except P.E.I.
Morrison hopes to impart some of his wisdom to other entrepreneurs tomorrow at the 2006 Black Business Summit. Today is the launch of the workshops and speeches at this year's summit...
